Saturnalia, EUR 600,000 round for agritech technologies

Saturnalia, a startup specialising in solutions based on artificial intelligence and satellite data for the agricultural and insurance sectors, closes a EUR 600,000 investment round. The capital increase was led by Farming Future, Polo Nazionale di Trasferimento Tecnologico dell’Agrifood Tech, promoted by CDP Venture Capital in collaboration with ToSeed Partners.

Founded in Pavia, Saturnalia has developed a platform that combines satellite data and advanced artificial intelligence models for agricultural crop monitoring and automated climate damage analysis. The solution proposed by the start-up allows insurance companies to quickly make objective damage estimates, reducing appraisal costs and minimising valuation errors. At the same time, it allows farmers to easily and continuously monitor their crops, optimising key resources such as irrigation.

Saturnalia’s platform is already active and used by insurance companies and farms in several European countries.

Gianni Cristian Iannelli, CEO of Saturnalia (pictured with the team), says in a note: “Farming Future’s entry into our capital is a key step in expanding the adoption of our technologies in both the agricultural and insurance markets. This investment will enable us to further refine our AI models and strengthen our international presence.”

Claudia Pingue, Head of CDP Venture Capital’s Technology Transfer Fund, says: “Saturnalia concretely demonstrates the value of artificial intelligence combined with satellite data. The ability to accurately assess climate impacts on crops is an important competitive advantage for insurance companies and supports a more resilient and sustainable agriculture.”

Saturnalia intends to use the new funds to expand its platform with new climate monitoring and analysis capabilities, to further develop automated analysis solutions, and to forge new international strategic partnerships.
