South Summit, which organises tech events in Spain, Brazil and other countries, and whose president María Benjumea we recently interviewed, announces its new vertical event South Summit Climate & Bioeconomy Brazil Amazonia. The event follows the 2025 edition of the South Summit in Rio Grande do Sul, and chronologically follows the traditional Madrid event now in its 14th edition, which takes place between 4 and 6 June.
South Summit Climate & Bioeconomy Brazil Amazonia will address sustainability and climate change challenges and the future of energy transition, carbon emissions, circular economy, impact entrepreneurship and ESG criteria. It will be held on 15 and 16 July in the Brazilian city of Belém, on the edge of the Amazon rainforest, and aims to become one of the key events on the agenda of responsible and sustainable entrepreneurship. The South Summit Climate & Bioeconomy Brazil Amazonia will also take place in the context of the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30), scheduled from 10 to 21 November, also in Belém.
The Amazon, one of the planet’s greatest natural treasures, plays a strategic and essential role in the global economy and sustainability. With enormous potential for social, economic and sustainable development, the region will become the stage for a special edition of South Summit Brazil, whose aim is to promote high-impact connections, energise the local innovation ecosystem and position Belém and the Amazon at the centre of solutions to major global challenges.
At the press conference presenting the South Summit Climate & Bioeconomy Brazil Amazonia, María Benjumea, president and founder of the South Summit, underlines the success of the fourth edition of the South Summit Brazil, stating that “with the governor of Rio Grande do Sul (the state of the Brazilian federation where Porto Alegre hosted the South Summit, ed.), Eduardo Leite, and his entire government at the helm, he has shown that the only way to deal with crises and adversity is through the unity of all parties involved. Now we are taking another step and presenting a new vertical focused on sustainability and climate, in the most symbolic place to do so, the Amazon, the lung of the world, with the mission of bringing together the most innovative minds from around the world to build a healthier planet together’.
José Renato Hopf, President of South Summit Brazil, says that “being in the Amazon means projecting the future, recognising that the transformation of the world inevitably involves this territory. Holding a South Summit Brazil vertical in Pará (the state of the Brazilian federation where Belém is located, ed.) is a unique opportunity to connect the global ecosystem of innovation with this natural wonder and to build bridges between start-ups, investors and large companies committed to creating impactful solutions for the future’.
In the meantime, Keynes Lemos da Silva, Deputy Secretary for Science, Technology and Higher, Vocational and Technological Education of the State of Pará, expresses strong support for the South Summit Climate & Bioeconomy Brazil Amazonia project taking place in his region. “Bringing this event to Amazonia is a recognition of the key role of our territory in global discussions on sustainable development, bioeconomy and climate justice. It is an opportunity to put ourselves at the centre of the decisions that will shape the coming years’.
With this new event in Belém, South Summit expands its global network of meetings and strengthens its role as a leading platform for innovative entrepreneurship with positive impact. Furthermore, this vertical marks the first thematic event South Summit is hosting in Brazil, with the main event remaining the South Summit Brazil in Porto Alegre. Established as a global meeting point for investors, companies and entrepreneurs, the event will experience its fifth edition in the capital of the State of Rio Grande do Sul on 25, 26 and 27 March 2026, co-organised by IE University and the Government of Rio Grande do Sul.
